T his site I tried to create entirely with Actionscript. Well we really can call it a Flex application and it had started out and as a, fun, learning experience but then it ended up being extremely code intensive and cumbersome. Just about every asset in this version had been created with Spark Skins except for my personal logo and the menu icons. Creating those skins with animations would have just taken way too long and or not really been worth the effort.
I had a lot of fun with the Flickr integration. It turned out to be a little bit of work but I feel that added a great backdrop to the presentation of the application. Photography has always been a second love to web design / programming and I wanted to capitalize on that. You can see that you will also be able to view the meta-data of each photo when you mouse over images in the top right of the site.
You will also notice that a lot of work went into the building transitions and navigation transitions throughout the application. One of the my favorite things to do in a Flex application is to make it feel, act, and look fun and engaging. This shows that a Flex application can hold it’s own next to a Flash promotional site. Oh, and do not forget Flash 3D…
Then, Flashbuilder 4 came out and I wanted to start a fresh new design and site along with it’s release…
